IN THE SHADOWS / UNWRITTEN

A Web Drama Series

We are currently exploring the area of online drama and have recently invested in this dark fantasy series from the mind of writer Michael Honnah, which gives a uniquely Black British spin on the horror genre. Our involvement as executive producers reflects our ethos of supporting marginalised voices in the arts, particularly in TV and Film where producers of colour are too few and far between. Stay tuned to see how this one comes to fruition!

FOOTSTEPS IN THE DARK

Our first co-production of a dramatic short film, F.I.T.D is a beautiful story of the unexpected reunion of identical twin brothers, connected in ways they could never have seen…

Developed from a beautiful script written by Justin Smith Ozomba, Bust-A-Gut is incredibly proud to be involved in this project in an executive role.

SOUNDS LIKE SHOW

The only panel show all about rhymes!

Sounds Like is a unique acquisition for the Bust-A-Gut Stable. A comedy rap panel show that exists both in Pay Per View for online as well as in sell out shows around the UK. We’ve taken the show to the Edinburgh Fringe, selling out at the Udderbelly at the Edinburgh Festival in 2023, we opened the poetry tent at Latitude Festival 2024 and are currently in talks to bring it to the Melbourne Comedy Festival 2025.

In the meantime we are regularly bringing the show to comedy clubs across the UK.

WORDPOWER HOUR!*

AN INTERACTIVE COMEDY STAGE SHOW FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

*More like half an hour in practice, 45 minutes max, but the name wouldn’t be as good.

Ben Bailey Smith, AKA rapper and comedian Doc Brown, brings a hilarious, high-energy, ridiculous yet deceptively educational family show to the stage.

AS SEEN IN THE KIDZFIELD BIG TOP AT GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL 2024!

Where do words come from? What are all the different ways they can be used? Just how exactly are they among the most powerful tools on the planet? Doc Brown’s Wordpower Hour combines performance poetry, songs, brainteasers, jokes and live illustration to create a fully interactive experience for children aged 5 and up that celebrates and investigates the true power of words.

Children and their families will get the opportunity to:

  • Play etymological games – discovering the origins of languages silliest words
  • TRUE or FALSE: guess which words are real or fake and pitch meanings for both
  • Join Doc on stage to live illustrate his poems for him
  • Share their favourite jokes in an onstage joke battle with the Doc himself!

Road tested in primary schools across the UK, the Wordpower Hour has proved to be riotous fun for children – now experience the extra silliness to be had by involving their families too!

Past

The Football Ramble

Back in June 2014 we embarked on our first live production, a theatre based incarnation of the wildy popular and cult football podcast, The Football Ramble. We have since produced five more shows, three in London (The Arcola, The Prince Charles cinema and the Bloomsbury respectively), one in Edinburgh (The Pleasance), Manchester (The Football Museum) and one in Oslo, Norway (The Vulkan Arena). All immediate sellouts, this show will undoubtedly run and run. If love a plate of football with a hearty laugh on the side, why not join us for the next one?

Cheerio

In November 2014 we released our first official fully in-house production, a short film to accompany an instrumental piece by much hyped DJ and Record Producer “The Last Skeptik”. Directed by Shawn Butcher, we approached this project aiming to create something different and stylistically eye-catching, two of the top objectives in our mission statement.
